If you was born on or before 5th January 1953, you may be eligible for a tax free winter fuel payment of £300 from the Government.
Usually the money is paid automatically by mid January every year and it doesn’t affect any other benefits you get, how much you receive depends on your circumstances.
If you’re in receipt of state pension or another social security benefit such as Pension Credit, Jobseekers Allowance (JSA) or income related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) you can get between £100 and £300 winter payment automatically.
If you have never had the winter payment before and are not in receipt of any benefits or a state pension then you’ll have to make a claim for it.
